Newborn Session at Satori Collective in Sherwood, Oregon | Lifestyle Newborn Photography

If you’re looking for a light, airy studio for your newborn photos in the Portland metro area, I absolutely love photographing sessions at Satori Collective in Sherwood, Oregon. This recent newborn session was such a perfect example of how simple, intentional styling and a relaxed approach can create timeless, meaningful images.

A Cozy Studio Newborn Session in Sherwood, OR

This sweet baby boy joined me at Satori Collective at 5 weeks old, alongside his proud big sister (age 3). The studio’s bright white walls and natural light created the dreamiest backdrop—and this family leaned into it beautifully by choosing shades of blue for their outfits.

The soft blues added just enough contrast against the clean white space, giving their gallery a fresh, cohesive feel without overwhelming the images. It’s a perfect reminder that neutrals don’t have to mean “all beige.” A muted color palette can photograph just as timelessly.

What Happens When Baby Doesn’t Fall Asleep?

One of the most common concerns I hear from parents is:
“What if my baby doesn’t sleep?”

This little guy stayed awake for most of his session, and it was completely okay.

We started with him in a simple outfit, capturing those early details and connection with mom, dad, and big sister. Then I gently wrapped him in one of my go-to neutral beige swaddles.

Even though he didn’t fall asleep, the swaddle kept him feeling secure, cozy, and content, which allowed us to capture:

  • Bright, curious eyes
  • Sweet, calm expressions
  • Beautiful connection moments with his family

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I don’t rely on complex poses or deep sleep. Instead, I focus on natural moments and genuine connection, which means awake babies are always welcome here.

When Should You Schedule Newborn Photos?

I typically recommend scheduling newborn sessions between 2–5 weeks old, but here’s the truth:

There is no “too late” when it comes to documenting your baby.

Each stage brings something special:

  • 2–3 weeks: Sleepier, curlier, extra “squishy”
  • 4–6 weeks: More alert, expressive, making eye contact

Because my sessions are lifestyle-based, babies can absolutely be a little older. I’m not placing them in intricate or unnatural poses, so there’s much more flexibility in timing.

Giving Moms the Grace They Deserve

I also want to say this clearly, because not enough people do:

You do not have to be ready for photos a few days after giving birth.

Recovery looks different for everyone. Some moms feel up for a session quickly, while others need more time, and both are completely valid.

Waiting a few weeks can mean:

  • You feel more like yourself
  • Baby has settled into a rhythm
  • The experience feels more relaxed and enjoyable

And if leaving the house feels overwhelming? That’s where in-home newborn sessions come in. I offer those as well, so you can stay in your comfort zone while still documenting this season.

Including Siblings in Your Newborn Session

Having a toddler involved (especially a 3-year-old!) always adds a layer of fun and unpredictability. I fully embrace that.

Big sister did amazing, and we kept things playful and low-pressure, allowing her to interact naturally with her new baby brother. These moments often become some of the most meaningful images in your gallery.
