Bringing your baby home is such a special (and honestly, a little overwhelming) time. Those early days are a blur of feedings, snuggles, and figuring everything out as you go.
That’s why my approach to newborn sessions is simple: relaxed, flexible, and completely centered around your baby.
Whether you’re planning an in-home newborn session in the Portland Metro or we’re booking a natural light studio, here’s exactly what you can expect.
A Relaxed, Baby-Led Session
First things first, nothing about your session will feel rushed. We book two hours for these sessions, but only about half of that time is typically used for capturing photos.
Newborn sessions are guided by your baby, not a strict timeline. If your little one needs to eat, be held, or just take a minute to settle, we pause. No stress, no pressure.
Some of the sweetest moments actually happen in between the “planned” shots.

When to Schedule Your Newborn Photos
If you’re currently expecting, the best time to book your Portland Metro newborn photo session is during your second or third trimester.
Because I capture lifestyle-type photos, sessions typically take place within the first 2-6 weeks after birth, when babies are extra sleepy and love to curl up. But if your baby is already here—don’t worry. It’s never too late to capture this stage.
In-Home Newborn Sessions in Hillsboro
Want to stay cozy at home? You absolutely can.
In-home newborn sessions are perfect if you love a more personal, lifestyle feel. Plus, you don’t have to pack up and go anywhere, which is a huge win in those early days.
You don’t need a picture-perfect house. I’ll find the best natural light (usually near windows) and gently guide you the whole way.
What it’s like:
- Relaxed, real-life moments
- Snuggles on the bed or couch
- Nursery details if you’d like
- Breaks whenever baby needs them

Studio Newborn Sessions (Natural Light & Minimal)
If you prefer a clean, simple look, I like to use Satori Studio in Sherwood, OR as a beautiful option.
The space is soft, neutral, and designed to keep the focus on your baby and your connection as a family.
What’s included:
- Wraps, blankets, and simple baby pieces
- Light, airy styling
- A calm, quiet environment
- No prep needed on your end
Just show up and breathe; I’ve got the rest.

Parents & Siblings Are Included
As a lifestyle newborn photographer, most of our session will include parents and/or siblings. You don’t have to “know what to do” in photos—that’s my job.
I’ll guide you into natural, easy poses so you feel comfortable and look like yourselves. Siblings are always included too, and we keep things light and flexible so they can ease in without pressure.

What to Wear for Your Session
Keeping things simple goes a long way.
I recommend:
- Neutrals (cream, white, beige, soft gray)
- Earthy tones
- Flowy, comfortable pieces
Try to avoid loud patterns or logos so the focus stays on your connection.
And if you’re stuck, I’m always happy to help you choose outfits.
How Long Does a Newborn Session Take?
Most sessions last about 1.5 to 2 hours.
That might sound long, but it gives us plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing, without ever feeling rushed.

What If My Baby Is Fussy?
Totally normal. Truly.
You don’t need a “perfect” baby for beautiful photos. I’ve worked with all kinds of newborn personalities, and we always make it work.
Some of the most meaningful images come from those real, in-between moments.
After Your Session
Once your session is done, I’ll carefully edit your images and send you a gallery to view your photos.
From there, you can download, print, and share your photos!
A Quick Reassurance
You don’t need a spotless house.
You don’t need perfectly coordinated outfits.
You don’t need a perfectly calm baby.
You just need to show up, and I’ll guide you through the rest.
If you’re looking for a relaxed, natural newborn photographer in Hillsboro, Oregon, I’d love to document this season for your family.
