Hagg Lake Family Session | Connected, Calm, & Baby-Led

There’s something especially meaningful about photographing families you share real life with. It’s the kind of connection that goes beyond the lens. This session at Hagg Lake was exactly that.

I met this mama earlier this year at the Providence Newberg new moms group, in those early, hazy newborn days when everything feels brand new and a little overwhelming. Somehow, in the middle of it all, we found instant friendship. Our daughters are just four days apart in age, which has made this season of life even sweeter, watching them grow side by side, sharing milestones, and cheering each other on through motherhood.

So getting to document her family in this stage, with their six-month-old baby, felt incredibly special.

We planned the session at Hagg Lake, one of my favorite spots for its versatility and natural beauty. The family chose a soft, earthy color palette: neutral greens for mom and dad, with baby girl in the sweetest shade of pink for a gentle pop of color. It was simple, timeless, and perfectly complemented the surroundings.

We started in an open field, where the lake stretched quietly in the distance. The light there was soft and golden, wrapping around them as they laughed, held their baby close, and settled into each other naturally.

From there, we made our way down to the water’s edge. The lake gave us a completely different feel. Baby girl was fascinated by the movement of the water, and her parents soaked in every little reaction. These are the moments that pass so quickly, but mean everything.

We finished the session along a forested trail, tucked beneath tall trees and surrounded by rich greens. It added a sense of quiet coziness to the gallery, a contrast to the openness of the field and shoreline. Here, the pace slowed even more. There were snuggles, soft whispers, and those in-between moments that often become the most treasured.

What I loved most about this session wasn’t just the beautiful locations or thoughtful styling. It was the connection. The kind that comes from shared experiences, from walking through the same season of life at the same time, and from building a friendship that extends far beyond a photoshoot.

These are the images that will one day remind them not just of how life looked, but how it felt.

And I’m so grateful I got to be the one to capture it.
