This sweet one year milestone session at Satori Collective in Sherwood, Oregon was the perfect example of how simple can still feel incredibly meaningful.
This family chose to keep things minimal, using the studio’s clean white backdrop to let their baby truly shine. No elaborate setup, no distractions, just a focus on this big milestone and all the personality that comes with turning one.
A Simple Setup That Let Baby Shine
For this session, we leaned into a timeless, minimalistic style. The plain white backdrop created the perfect blank canvas, allowing every little expression and detail to stand out.
Baby wore his milestone sweater (the same one he’s worn for his monthly photos at home) which made this session feel even more personal. The soft light brown tone popped beautifully against the white background and tied everything together in such a simple, intentional way.
Mom and dad also brought along a special stuffy, which added a sentimental touch to the session and something familiar for their little one to hold onto.
The Cake Smash (With the Perfect Pop of Color)
When it came time for the cake smash, they kept things just as simple and thoughtful.
A plain white cake with colorful sprinkles added the perfect pop of color without taking away from the overall look. It was playful, a little messy, and exactly what a first birthday session should be.
These moments are always some of my favorites. I love watching little ones explore, taste, and fully experience something new. Every reaction is different, and that’s what makes each session so unique.
Celebrating One Year as a Family
One of my favorite parts of this session was that we also made time for a few family photos.
Your baby’s first year isn’t just a milestone for them, it’s a huge milestone for you, too. Taking a moment to document what life looks like as a family of three (or more) is something you’ll never regret.
These images always end up being just as meaningful as the cake smash itself.
